Apple removes bang with friends from its app store
No more knocking boots with your Facebook
friends, iPhone users. Apple has removed the
salaciously titled Bang With Friends iPhone
application from its App Store.
Bang With Friends, which was going by "BWF
Official" on Apple's App Store, arrived on
mobile devices last week. The hookup service,
first launched on Web in January, has around 1
million users and helps people discreetly
indicate their lust for a Facebook buddy.
Co-founder Colin Hodge, now going by his real
name, told Valleywag that Apple removed the
application from the App Store. Indeed, the
original link to the iPhone app now returns this
error message: "The item you've requested is
not currently available in the U.S. store." The
Bang With Friends iPhone Web page also says,
"Be right back."
"We're working with Apple to figure out exactly
why," a Bang With Friends spokesperson told
CNET.
The application, though eyebrow-raising in
name, isn't as offensive as it would seem --
unless the word bang bothers you. BWF is
essentially a matching service that connects
two Facebook friends who indicate that they
are "Down to Bang" each other.
Apple did not immediately respond to a
request for a comment, but the company has
a well-documented history of banning or
removing applications that don't meet its
guidelines.
